A warm welcome to the twenty new members who have already joined the club this year and, if the Met Office forecast is anything to go by, they’ve made a wise decision.  The long range forecast predicts an “odds on for a barbeque summer” and says “after two disappointingly wet summers the signs are much more promising”.  We can expect “times when temperatures will be above 30C and below average rainfall across the UK”.  With our many activities planned throughout the summer, this is very good news indeed! 

 

So, don’t miss out. New members are welcome to join at any stage throughout the year.  Although the training courses will be underway, there is still plenty to do for all ages.  Dinghies and Canadian canoes can be taken out for a gentle paddle and the river setting is perfect for a lazy picnic or a fish and chip supper whilst watching the sun go down.  Our own, ever popular, Rag Regatta on Saturday 18th July is definitely one to have in your diary and offers something for everyone, whatever their age and skill.

 

Our recent Open Day was a great success. The sun came out, along with the barbeque and crowds. Not only did people take the opportunity to join, but a total of 116 course places were booked on the day. The variety of courses reflects the number of different craft the club has available to members. As ever kayaking (including the mini-course for 8-10 year olds) and skiffing courses were popular as was rowing where all places were taken and a reserve list formed. There was also hands on dongola training (and racing!) in preparation for the Wargrave & Shiplake Regatta and the younger children enjoyed a disco.

 

There are still a few tickets left for our Aquatic Orienteering event on Saturday 13th June. As it’s a Festival event, you don’t have to be a member of WBC to take part. It’s just £10 entry a team (max 4 people).  If you would like one, please email social@wargraveboatingclub.co.uk
