To visit or join the skiffing section Google Group click on http://groups.google.com/group/wbcskiff .
This group has been set up for members to plan and talk about skiffing outings. February 2010
The Skiff section has been quiet for the past 6 weeks with the river being unusable for most of that time. This might be an opportune time to remind members that the Environment Agency operates a stream condition advisory system. It uses displays boards at each lock to advise on the condition of the stream :
• Red boards: To advise users of all boats not to navigate because the strong flows make it difficult and dangerous
• Yellow boards: To advise users of all unpowered boats not to navigate and users of powered boats to navigate with caution In the skiff section we do not go out on red boards, and only double skiffs may be used on yellow boards by members who have been approved to do so. Up to date river conditions for all sections of the river are available at http://riverconditions.visitthames.co.uk
For the diary: this year we will host both a Skiff Racing Association (SRA) sprint regatta on Saturday September 18th at Henley Sailing Club and an SRA Junior Marathon on Sunday 26th September starting at our club house. All of our skiffers are welcome to compete in these events.
Don’t forget the first Sunday of each month is ‘Brunch in Henley’ and is open to all approved scullers. We leave the club at 9am, brunch in Henley and return to the club by 12 noon.
For more information about skiffing and punting at WBC please contact Mike Chamberlain at skiff@wargraveboatingclub.co.uk. New members are always welcome.
